Ballast
Ballast cars have fixed sides and ends with open tops. These cars have two or more openings on the bottom for rapid discharge unloading. Various Ballast car configurations are available: equipped or unequipped; side or bottom dump; and gross rail loads of 263,000 to 286,000 lbs.
