Vehicular flat cars
are flat cars specifically equipped with superstructure or containers for
transporting set-up vehicles. "Bi-level" refers to a superstructure with
two levels. "Tri-levels" have three. A "low level" is less than 34" above
the rail, a "mid level" between 34" and 40" above the rail, and a "high
level" is 40" and over above the rail. In most cases, bi-level cars transport
trucks and tri-levels transport automobiles.
